It was a busy week leading up to SuperPowerKids tea talk #2 on Primary Success in Life Examination. Organized by the Family Life Ministry of St. James’ Church, the talk was catered for parents whose children are in Primary 6 and preparing for their year-end PSLE examination.

We had an amazing time with the old school theme that we came up with. And an even more amazing time watching the participants being delighted with the table layout, and especially the kachang puteh. Looks like many out there appreciate the return of old, familiar favourites which bring back lots of heart-warming thoughts with regards to our childhood lives.

Here are some photos of the tea talk. Enjoy. 🙂

I woke up this morning with the absolute resolution to start on preparation for SPK Tea Talk #2. I packed and re-packed most of the necessary stuff and lugged it from my home to work.

From the moment I plugged in my laptop, and started work on the tea talk, I nary stopped for a break, except for lunch with two lovely ladies at Great World City (plus a gorgeously delicious bag of Garrett’s Chicago Mix..woot!). By the way, if you’ve never ever eaten Garrett’s popcorn before – you have to try it! Especially the Chicago Mix. It’s the best popcorn ever – caramel and cheese popcorn together in the same bag. Heavens. Anyway, I digress. So, here’s what I have to show for the day:

In-line with the tea talk’s focus on “PSLE”, we decided to go old school with this Sunday’s tea. See those cones in the backdrop? It’s for kacang puteh, an old movie favourite. Honey joys will be another old school simple delight on the table this Sunday, together with a few other noshes to tickle the taste buds.

Speaking of tickling, have you ever been tickled by either your own hair or someone else’s? It’s super irritating isn’t it? But anyhow, that’s not the point. The thing is…in my enthusiasm to cut into circles all my cupcake tags, I cut off a chunk of my own hair. Yep…you read it right – I cut off a chunk of my own hair. I was happily snipping away when I saw a few strands of hair on my table. I picked it up, feeling perplexed and saw to my horror that it was not a few strands, but a chunk! Thank God the damage was not great – I guess that’s the perk of having curly hair – you can’t really tell whether it’s supposed to be long or short. So, I survived, and here are the cupcake tags, a testimony of my hair-raising (or losing) experience.

Am really excited about this Sunday’s tea talk. Meanwhile, it’s preparation and more preparation work. Have a great week wherever you are, whatever you’re doing and may you find true joy and satisfaction always.

As SPK tea talk #2 draws nearer, so does our interest for table settings increases. Here’s a very doable, lovely idea from this amazingly awesome website.

We’re already in the midst of planning for SPK Tea Talk #2 “Primary Success in Life Examination” on 22nd May. Amongst the many ideas that we have, one definite item that we’re definitely putting forth on the tea table is this…

We’re also thinking of bringing back an old-school delight, Honey Joys, and maybe The Almost Famous Cookies again…but we shall see.

BTW, if you’re wondering that the SPK Tea Talk #2 is all about, this talk is specially catered for parents with kids in upper primary. Here’s a small write-up on it.

The primary 6 PSLE is deemed by parents as one of, if not the most, important examinations in Singapore. Anything that can help the child score higher in PSLE is of huge economic value.

Parents with children in primary school are invited to explire something candid and honest with Lan Chin on 22nd May, and to help their children towards a more rewarding PSLE.

You will bring home more than what you asked for!

This talk can take only 30 people max, so if you’re keen, do contact SHEENA GOH at +65 6469 0715 or email sheena@sjc.org.sg

Meanwhile, enjoy your weekend, and will you please excuse us as we take a bite out of a delish Red Velvet cupcake…

St. James’ Church Family Life Ministry, working in tandem with the SuperPowerKids (SPK), held a tea talk for parents on The VIRTUES Project with Ms. Jenny Ong, a trained facillitator of The VIRTUES Project,  as the speaker.

lavendernotes was given the wonderful opportunity of catering a tea for the talk and this afternoon was THE DAY!!!Over 40 people turned up and there was a buzz of energy and excitement around the tea table as people gathered around for some food and chit chat after the talk.

We were very encouraged by what we saw and heard at the tea table as people mingled, ooh and ahh over the decorations, ate cookies and sandwiches, picked up a little pressie of the nicely wrapped brownies, made their own coffees and teas…and best of all, asked about lavendernotes and took the brochures that we laid out!

Everything we’ve done so far since God laid the vision upon our hearts last year has been on a small scale – small, but comfortable…and with each tiny step that we have taken, God has at each point, been faithful, encouraging and affirmative. This tea party is by far, the biggest project we’ve ever taken on…and also the first ever catering event that lavendernotes has ever hosted.

We are truly thankful to the Family Life Ministry for giving us this opportunity to explore our creativity (not to mention baking skills!), expand our horizons and expose more people to our cause.

Above all, we give all glory and honour to the God who knows us, calls us by name…and to whom lavendernotes belongs to. It is His cause, His project, His work.

We look forward to greater things in time to come.

Meanwhile, here are some photos that we took of the table spread for your viewing pleasure.

…to our very FIRST ever tea party!!!

After the whole busyness of the Christmas season last year, we’ve been kinda quiet (but definitely no less busy!) as we went back full steam into our work and studies.

Anyhows, we’ve just been given a wonderful assignment by the lovely Family Life Ministry of St. James’ Church. They will be hosting a SuperPowerKids (SPK for short) Tea-Talk in April and May and have requested for us to do their tea party! Woot!!

So, we’ve been sourcing around and here’s a lovely idea from one of our favourite blogs who took it from here through here.

Whaddya think?
